WVO is gravity fed to the drum filter via 2" hose through inline heater. Oil enters drum near bottom and is preheated once drum is full. Vacuum is pulled on reactor, then flow control valve is opened on reactor. Heated oil is pulled through filter element in drum under vacuum, through second stage canister filter near reactor. Flow rate is controlled by ball valve on reactor. The drum is at atmospheric pressure only, inner filter element is under vacuum to pull oil through.

Picture 239.jpgComplete Filtering Process209 viewsWell settled oil is stored in the 300 gallon tote, it's then preheated as it enters the drum filter through a 1 inch black iron pipe. The drum contains another 3500W heating element and the master temp controls, along with the filter element and vent tubes to equalize the pressure and keeps out the air. Once heated the oil passes through the drum filter it continues to a 20 micron can filter before entering the reactor.

Picture 102.jpgFilter Element Inside209 viewsThe filter element consists of a inverted 6 gallon plastic bucket with hundreds of 1/2 holes drilled in it. The bucket is attached to a 1 inch black iron pipe through a hole in the bottom. Two pillow cases are pulled over the bucket and clamped to the 1 inch pipe with hose clamps. Vacuum pulls the oil through the pillow cases trapping all large particles in the drum like a canister filter. The pipe on the left side is the fill tube for the drum.

IMG_0201.JPGDrum Filter Back Side143 viewsAt the bottom you can see the 20 Amp power cord plug that connects the inline heating element to the primary control box. Top left is the inlet line with vent tube connected. This was installed to purge the air from the inline heating element. Center top is the outlet line to the reactor connected by a quick coupler. There is no vacuum on the drum, only on inner bag filter element contains a vacuum.

Picture 151.jpgInline Heater Controller and Switch158 viewsThis single gang box is welded to the 2 inch T fitting that contains the inlet and 3500W heating element. Under the switch is a standard hot water element temp control, this regulates the oil temp entering the drum filter. The switch allows you to turn off this element while preheating the oil in the drum first. Once up to temp, we open the valves and flip on this preheater.

Picture 233.jpgFirst Inline Heater Temp142 viewsAs the WVO passes the first inline heater it reaches up to 130 deg F. Preheating the oil is important to getting good flow rates past the filter elements.

Picture 240.jpgOil Temp Entering Reactor128 viewsThis pic shows the oil temperature as it enters the reactor and the vacuum gauge in the background shows the vac level on the reactor when filling. We usually keep this at 10 to 15 inches.

Picture 241.jpgCan Filter and Flow Valve132 viewsThe flow from the filters is controlled by a 1 inch ball valve, pictured here with the blue handle. About 1/3 open under 10 inches vacuum flows 10 liters per minute.
